COURSE RATINGS
It is interesting to note that Golf Australia will shortly announce a move towards the overseas slope system or similar for our course rating in Australia. Associations have been pushing for this system for many years as the system we use at the moment is stupid and grossly unfair in many aspects.
At last they have seen the light and moving in the right direction.
When implemented all courses in Australia will have to be prepared but at least we will then be on a level playing field so to speak. At the moment the variation between golf courses is too great. We will keep you informated over the coming months.

INTERDISTRICT PENNANT
The annual Pennant Match against the B.D.G.A. was held this year at the Southport Golf Club on Sunday 14th June.
This event has been played since 1985 and has proven to be one of our major events on our calendar each year. Unfortunately for the Gold Coast we went down in the Champion District Section 22 to 18 overall.
The Coast again wont he Open Section with good wins for Simon Teague and Captain Blake McGrory in their matches. A great fight back by Luke Marino after being well down early clinced a square result with John Fox and Lachlan Wall also competing their matches square.
The Juniors fought out a very close match with a final result of all square Jack Fox and Taylor Cooper played well to secure good wins while Kade McBride managed a very good square result.
The colts struggled with a final result of one win [Braden Marlbrough] and a fighting squared match by James Gibellini to go down 3 1/2 / 1 1/2.
The Masters also found the going tough with a 3 1/2 / 1 1/2 defeat. Captain Tracy Dunn flew the flag with a great win 3/1 and Lenny Korn managed to square his match. The others need more practice.
All in all the day proved most successful with the GCDGA winning the open section once again. Over the years some very successful golfers have represented the District in this competition. Players like Matty Ballard, Scotty Gardner, Lee Manning etc. All have gone on to be very good golfers in the professional ranks after representing our District.
Congratulations to all our teams for a very formidable defence of our reputation as a dominant association within Queensland. We truly appreciate you representing the Gold Coast and hope you enjoyed the weekend as well at the competition.

DIVISION ONE PENNANT
Once again a very close fought final took place at Sanctuary Cove - The Pines Resort. Southport hung on to defeat The Colonial 4/3.
The turning point and decisive moment of the entire match was Daniel Paton's Hole In One on the 166 mtr, 16th Hole when on good authority the ball slam dunked into the hole - the rest is history. We believe this may be the first Hole In One recorded in District Pennant especially in a final over almost 50 years. CONGRATULATIONS to Daniel.
It is most fitting and generous that Sanctuary Cove Vice Captain Bob Wiesmese presented Daniel with his actual ball mounted on a trophy which was a tremendous gesture by the Club.
Most matches were close all day with the result being in the balance until right at the end. There was exceptional golf played on a course that was presented in immaculate condition by Sanctuary Cove course staff. The Club had recorded around 12 inches of rain over the preceding 4 days so to have a rain free day and great golf course we were blessed.
Congratulations to all players who competed in the 2009 Seriesl. Fantastic results from all players.
