A.G.M.

CHANGE AT THE TOP

The 2009 Annual General Meeting [A.G.M.] was held at The Colonial on Tuesday 4th May 2010. After 12 years as the President of the G.C.D.G.A. Jon Norton has decided not to continue on in that role. Jon has spent more than 25 years as a member of the Association and believes he has earnt a break. At the A.G.M Jon was congratulated and thanked for many years of service devoted to the Association and its member clubs and for his contribution to Junior golf over that time. Jon received small gifts as a token of his tremendous contribution to District Golf over a large period of time.

Jon wished newly elected President Rod Macleod and his committee the best of luck for the ensuring years as the Association moves into an area of uncertain future with club memberships in some cases feeling the strain in maintaining numbers. He said it is most important for the Association to support all clubs in their endeavour to provide stability and security for their club members.

JUNIOR PENNANT

The 2010 Junior Pennant Competition concluded with Emerald Lakes winning the Pennant for the second time - Congratulations.

The team played well right through the competition and deserved to finish on top. Burleigh G.C. managed to defeat Surfers Paradise in the final match to become runners up for 2010.

Congratulations to all clubs for a very good contest with excellent golf being played each week. Thank you for to players and team managers for a terrific series.

JUNIOR INTERCLUB Pennant Series continues for another 3 three weeks before the winner is declared - a close finish is expected.

DIVISION 1 & 2 PENNANT

Division 1:

Southport Again - Congratulations

Once again Southport have shown they are the King of Division 1 Pennant by taking out the 2010 Flag with a tight finish between the No. 1's in Lee Manning [Southport] and Simon Livingstone [Arundel HIlls] in the Final match. After a close competition all day with results at 3 all with one match to complete Manning was putting to win on the 18th - the putt lipped out resulting in a half match and sent the players down the nineteenth. Livingstone could only manage a par 4 leaving Manning to putt out for a birdie and win the Pennant for Southport. Another great close Pennant Series for the G.C.D.G.A.

Division 2:

Burleigh G.C. - Congratulations

Another very close competition between Burleigh and newcomers Gainsborough Greens going right down to the line with Burleigh just holding on for a 4/3 win. Congratulations to Burleigh for once again moving up to Division 1 and also to Gainsborough Greens for making the finals in their first year.

Surfers Paradise are relegated to Division 2 for 2011 Series.

TAMBORINE MT 2010 JUNIOR CLASSIC

SUNDAY 20TH JUNE 2010

18 HOLES SINGLE STROKE EVENT

Congratulations must go to all at Tamborine Mt for the excellent running of this weeks Junior Classic. The day was great - the course was great - the golf was more than great and the hospitality was five star. Due to the hard work and extreme effort by the course super and his staff. I'm told the course has never been better. This is born out by the brilliant scores returned by players in all sections.

Special mention must go to Tristan Nichols [S/Cove] with a gross 68 and two girls Sohee Jeon [Col] and Jiyoung Lee [Robina] who both recorded gross 81. We are happy to advise that all three players have achieved new course records for Tamborine Mt. This is a great effort by these juniors as I am also told the course was set up "Tough". We are also pleased to advise that as Tamborine Mt were so excited with the day and performances by the juniors they have already booked their date for 2011 back on the Mountain.

2009 PATRON INVITATIONAL DAY

Once again 13 Golf Club representatives and guests attended Patron Percy Roberts Golf Day at Southport G.C. on Sunday 15th Nov 2009. A great day was had by all with very stiff competition being experienced from most teams. Some teams whom we won't name from Helensvale struggled the wind and rain for a very well constructed 34 points. All other teams played in brilliant sunny & dry conditions and scores were most improved. Of course visiting Clubs could not compete with the local pair of Phil Ratcliffe [Pres] and Norm Thomson who won the Patrons Trophy for Southport with a score of 46 points and two violent protests on grounds of home course rubbish having to be dismissed.

They were declared the winners - and so they should. The pair won four lovely rounds of golf at Lakelands for their effort - Well Done ! Congratulations!

Second place getters were the Coolangatta & Tweed Heads boys Ross Mead [Pres] & Darren Tonkin [Capt] with 44 points - [4 games of golf at Robina Woods/The Colonial] for their effort.

Third Club was Arundel Hills whose reps were Russell Beasley & Kerry Magro with a score of 43 c/b.

The Association would like to thank all Clubs who were kind enough to donate prizes of games of golf at their courses for this special day.

Lakelands Golf Club

Coolangatta & Tweed Heads Golf Club

Robina Woods / The Colonial

Emerald Lakes

Gold Coast Burleigh Golf Club

We thank you for making this day so successful for patron Percy.

Just a mention to Clubs who could not find 2 people out of their full memberships...... who would have been thrilled to the teeth to be asked to represent their Club on a special day like the Patrons Day. It is most disappointing to all concerned to only have half of our Clubs in the Association who take the time to make the effort to be part of this day.

If your club was not part of this years Patron Day then make arrangements now to be sure you will be part of it in 2010. It truly is a fantastic day.

Qld 4Ball Championships

Once again the Qld 4 Ball Championships are on with Clubs playing their qualifying rounds in Men's - Mixed and Women's competitions. Make sure your Club has these events programmed so you can have an opportunity to play in a State Championship.

Ist, 2nd and 3rd pairs will qualify to play in the regional final and 1st and 2nd pairs will progress to the final at Pelican Waters. So get your favourite partner and have a go - you never know if you don't have a go.

GOLF LINK

The first stage of Course Rating and Handicap changes will take place on Wednesday 7th April. Golflink will shut down at 9.00 am on the 7th and come back online at 9.00 am on the 9th April. This shutdown will enable Golflink to readjust all handicaps in their system both mens and women and reopen on the 9th with your new handicap. You will then be advised as to how your new handicap will be maintained in the future. This new system will go a long way in stopping members manipulating their handicaps as has been done for years.

If you fail to return your card in any competition you will be handicapped, so don't bother. It is now a level playing field.
